<p align="justify"><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">This week <u>The Spot</u>, the weekly poetry reading at the
Hotel Vernon (1 Kelly Square, Worcester), will hold an open mic. After the
open the fantastic <b>Sou MacMillan</b> will be their feature. Sou has been
on multiple slam teams and is a gifted poet, writer, musician and visual
artist. Her novel <i>Chrysanthemum</i> was released in 2007.</font></p>
<p align="justify"><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The reading starts at 8:00 p.m. with a brief open mic. 21+
and proper id is required.</font></p>

<p align="justify"><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><img src="http://poetsasylum.org/images/boxing.gif" alt="Poetic Boxing" title="Open Qualifying Slam Sunday Night!" align="right" width="71" height="75" hspace="5">
This week the <u>Poets' Asylum</u> will hold the next <b>open qualifying
slam</b> for the 2009 Worcester Slam team. Poetry slam is the
competitive art of performance poetry. It puts a dual emphasis on
writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they're
saying and how they're saying it. Slam poetry can be moving, funny and
deadly serious, sometimes all in the same poem. If that sounds like a
good time then join us for some great words. The top finisher tonight
moves on to the Team Finals in May.

Worcester). The reading starts at <b><font color="red">6:00 p.m.</font></b>

<h3><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">March 22nd Revisited</font></h3></center>
<p align="justify"><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">We had a quietish sort of night at the Poets' Asylum this
past Sunday. Not sure where everyone went; we had a fine time with our feature
<b>Tim Mason</b>. Tim kicked off his set with a tight piece about the wonder
of chocolate. He gave us a view of Texas drivers and the change in attitudes
toward baseball cards. He covered the venerable Jacob Knight & Coy Cain and
closed out the night with a powerful piece about having the right role model.
An excellent feature from a talented author. Thanks for the words Tim.</font></p>

<h3><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Slam Stuff</font></h3></center>
<p align="justify"><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Congratulations to <u>Dave Keali'i</u> on his first place win
at the March 19th open slam at The Spot. He moves on to the Team Finals on
May 24th. The next qualifying slams will be March 29th @ the Poets' Asylum.</font></p>
<p align="justify"><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Also congratulations to Rachel McKibbens on winning to the
2009 Women of the World Poetry Slam this past weekend in Detroit, MI.</font></p>
