Bob began attending the Sunday night reading in '99 and soon discovered that performance poetry was a heck of a lot more interesting than channel surfing his way through the evening hours. As time went by Bob began to help organize the reading and currently serves as treasurer & webmaster for poetsasylum.org. He has featured in venues in central & western Massachusetts and Providence, RI. His work has been published in Ballard Street Poetry Journal and the anthologies of the Poets' Asylum. We hope you'll check out one of our regulars by coming down to Jumpin' Juice & Java (335 Chandler Street, Worcester) on Sunday night. The sign-up list goes out by 6:00 p.m. and the reading starts by 6:30 p.m. No cover however please put some money in the bucket; it is how we pay our features. ------------------------------ 20th Anniversary Celebration - May 30th [image: 20th Anniversary logo] Twenty years ago the first National Poetry Slam fielded just 2 teams and the world wide web was just a glimmer of an idea. Oh yeah, and some fans of performance poetry started to meet in Worcester and founded the Poets' Asylum. While we've been packing 2010 with local features to celebrate the diverse voices that the Poets' Asylum has produced we decided to set aside one day, May 30th, to give as many people as possible a chance to take to the mic. Whether you once considered yourself a regular at the Poets' Asylum or if you read only once and remember the cheer when you were asked if it was your first time we invite you to come back. If, like your webmaster, listening is your thing we hope you'll join us as well. If you are visiting from out of state or coming a long distance to take part please let us know in advance so we can save a spot for you. Drop an e-mail to webmaster @ poetsasylum . org and let us know your plans. ------------------------------ May 2nd Revisited We had a good reading this week at the Asylum where our feature was one of our co-hosts, *Liz Heath*. Liz capped both ends of her set with solid, off-page work and filled the middle with tasty paper & screen readings other pieces. From "Size 26" through "Battlecry" she shared her words and emotions with us. Along the way she passed along a few anecdotes about her work, her family and her love of poetry. It was a fine night from not only a heck of an organizer but a strong poet. Thanks Liz. ------------------------------ What We've Been Up To If you haven't made it to the Poets' Asylum in a while check out the video we posted on our website and Facebook to get a quick look at the features you've missed. Also we uploaded seven new photo sets of features from the past several months to the 2010 Albums. Check out the photos of Marc Marcel, Khary Jackson, Tony Brown, Gary Hoare, Alex Charalambides, Lea Deschenes and Jackie Morrill. All these photos, and many more, can be found by visiting poetsasylum.organd clicking the Photo Gallery button on the left. ------------------------------ Find us online at http://poetsasylum.org/.
