Greeting from the Poets' Asylum.

The After Nine Poetry Series - Every Thursday Night
The *The After Nine Poetry Series*, former The Spot, is a weekly poetry
reading in the Ship Room at the Hotel Vernon (1 Kelly Square, Worcester).
The reading gathers starting at 8:00 p.m. but honestly things don't usually
get started until 9ish. They hold an open mic followed by a feature and this
week the feature will be *Sean Conlon*. 21+ and proper id is required.

[image: Rushelle Frazier] Join the Poets' Asylum this week for our regular
poetry open mic and a feature by Asylum regular *Rushelle Frazier*. Frazier
is the host of Worcester's newest poetry reading, The Dirty Gerund Poetry
Show. She was a member of the 2002 Worcester Slam team and was voted Best
Female poet at the 2006 Savannah Spoken Word Festival. She was recently
elected to the board of the Worcester County Poetry
Association<http://wcpa.homestead.com/>.
This July she will be one-third of the brick house that is the *Best Tour
Ever Tour 2009* along with tour mates Matt Fox and Nick Davis.
Come out for a night of great words at Jumpin' Juice and Java (335 Chandler
Street, Worcester). The reading starts at * 6:00 p.m.* No cover; please
throw some money in the bucket to support the feature.

May 31st Revisited
We love hearing new voices in the open mic and there were a couple this
week. Please join us again, it was great to hear you read. After the open we
held the *One Minute Slam*. Heather, Dave K, Meagan, Bill and Gary each took
part in the 3 round just-for-fun slam. The longest poem clocked in just over
the grace period at 1 minute 10.1 seconds. The shortest poem was a whole
15.9 seconds (and it wasn't a hiaku). At the end of the slam *Bill* beat out
Meagan by 2/10ths of a point to win the slam. Thanks to all who took part.

Fundraising Update
[image: Fundraising Thermometer] This week another $106 was raised toward
the expenses of sending a team to the 2009 National Poetry
Slam<http://www.nps2009.com/>.
We've raised a total of $1493 so far. Thanks to all those who have given
money in support of the team.
We still need to raise a minimum of another $1007 to cover our expenses. To
date the Poets' Asylum has spent $2438.50 on NPS registration, hotel rooms &
airfare to West Palm Beach. We have at least another couple hundred in
necessary expenses before August. We can't do this without you and we thank
you for your generosity.
We are looking toward our always supportive community for their assistance
in raising that money. If you have an idea for a fundraiser that you are
willing to organize please drop an email to webmaster @ poetsasylum .
