July 5th Revisited
It was a quietish holiday weekend Poets' Asylum this week. The members of
the 2009 Worcester Slam Team were on hand as were a handful of other folks
who read in the open mic. Thanks to all those who shared their voices with
us. After the open we held a 3 person *open qualifying slam* to seed the
iWPS Selection Slam on August 30th. Gary Hoare, Bobby Gibbs and MC Speil
took part in the two round word fest with Bobby & MC Speil tying for the top
position. Both move on to the iWPS finals. We'll have a second open
qualifier on August 23rd where two slots for the iWPS finals will be up for
grabs.

Fundraising Update
[image: Fundraising Thermometer] So far this year we have raised $1628
toward the expenses of sending a team to the 2009 National Poetry
Slam<http://www.nps2009.com/>.
Thanks to all those who have given money in support of the team.
The team has produced a chapbook to help raise money for their trip to
Florida in August. You can pick up a copy from Cyndi Keeley at the reading.
We are asking for a minimum donation of $5 for the book; you can always give
more if the spirit moves you. T-shirts have been ordered and we should have
them in hand my July 13th. You can reserve a shirt in your size by e-mailing
webmaster @ poetsasylum.org <webmaster at poetsasylum.org> with your shirt
size. We expect shirts to sell for $15 each.
We still need to raise a minimum of another $872 to cover our expenses. To
date the Poets' Asylum has spent $2573.50 on NPS & PSI registrations, hotel
rooms & airfare to West Palm Beach. That completes our expected expenses for
the team this year. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. We
can't do this without you and we thank you for your generosity.
