Greetings from the Poets' Asylum. Here's your weekly update on Central
Mass. poetry events.

Speakout! Youth Poetry Slam
Every Saturday Night
The *SpeakOut! Youth Poetry Slam* meets every Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00
p.m. The format is an open mic, youth slam (open to poets age 13-19) and a
feature. Share a poem at the open mic, take part in the youth slam or come
see the feature. This week their feature will be *Bobby Gibbs*, a member of
the several Worcester Slam teams and host of The Ship reading at the Hotel
Vernon. Join them in The Bisto in Higgins Student Center (950 Main Street,
Worcester).

Coming up on Sunday, December 7th
[image: Michael Brown] This week the Poets' Asylum welcomes *Michael
Brown*to our stage. Brown has published poetry, fiction, travel
articles and
columns in wide-ranging periodicals all over the world. His fourth book of
poetry, The Confidence Man, was published in 2006 by Ragged Sky. In May,
2007, Brown and his partner Valerie Lawson moved to Robbinston in Down East
Maine, the easternmost point in the USA, where they have been granted the
editorial & publishing privileges for Off the Coast.
Please join us at Jumpin' Juice and Java (335 Chandler Street, Worcester).
The reading starts at *6:00 p.m.* . No cover; please throw some money in the
bucket to support the reading.

November 30th Revisited
It is always nice to see folks who haven't made it to the reading in a while
drop in and share their words. Following a cozy open mic we held an *open
slam* with a twist. Two rookies signed up, honest to goodness never slammed
before poets, and we gave them a 10 point bonus for taking the plunge.
Scores were all over the spectrum, nice to see the range used as intended.
Thanks to Phil, Zeb, Lisa, Danny & Jeff for taking part. At the end of the
night Zeb, one of the rookies, won the slam and took a $25 prize back to
college with him.
