[image: Photo of Alex Charalambides] You know him, you love him, join us as
*Alex Charalambides* takes to the Poets' Asylum stage as our feature. Alex
Charalambides started performing poetry in the fall of 2000. He's the first
poet to represent Boston (2002), Providence (5th place 2003) and Worcester
(2004) at the annual National Poetry Slam. He took 17th place (out of 60) at
the 2004 Individual World Poetry Slam. He's the founder and director of the
Worcester Youth Poetry Slam. He has performed in slam venues, rock clubs,
high schools, colleges and coffee shops around the country. Tonight he
performs for us.
Come on down to the Java Hut, 1073A Main Street in Worcester. The sign-up
list goes up around 7:00 p.m. and the open mic will start sometime after
that. The feature follows the open mic. No cover; please bring a few bucks
for the bucket to support the feature and to buy a tasty beverage in support
of the venue.

July 1st Revisited
After a strong open mic, tonights feature Jacob Rakovan presented his smart
and witty work from his first chapbook. He gave a fantastic reading,
including a clever take on Little Red Riding Hood. He had several strong
poems about growing up in Ohio and ended with a poem in the voice of the
Frankenstein monster. An unforgettable feature!

Slam Team Fundraising
[image: Auctioneer] Next Sunday, July 15th, we will hold the annual *Asylum
Auction*. This is our big event to raise the money needed to get the Slam
team to the 2007 National Poetry Slam. Nationals are once again in Austin,
TX and our expenses include registrations, airfare, and lodging for the team
and coach. All told we expect to need over $3000 this year. We've raised
over $1200 to date so this event is very important to us. Please tell your
friends, family and anyone with some spare cash. :-)
The auction is made possible by donations from the poetry community of
everyday items that are in good shape plus the occasional interesting item
such as the Sylvia Plath EasyBake Oven. If you have good or interesting
items you'd like to donation to the Auction please send an e-mail to
fundraising
@ poetsasylum.org
<http://www.poetsasylum.org/fundraising@poetsasylum.org>with the
details.
