The winter holidays quickly approach and with them come a plethora of local
poetry events. Please join us if you can.

Friday with the SpeakOut Poetry Collective
The *SpeakOut! Poetry Collective* meets tonight with an open mic, feature
and youth slam. SpeakOut! meets on the third Friday of each month from 7:30
to 10:00 p.m. at the Java Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester). Hosted by Alex
Charalambides. Each night consists of 3 parts - an open mic, a feature and a
youth slam. This month *Trevor Byrne-Smith* will be their feature. The youth
slam is open to anybody ages 13 - 19.

Zodiac Cafe Reading on Saturday morning
Come on out the next *Reading at the Zodiac Cafe* (50 Lake Avenue, just off
Rt. 9 near UMass Med, Worcester). This week they will hold an extended open
and celebrate the season with a reading of *A Wish for Wings That Work* &
other stories. The reading runs from noon to 2:00 p.m. This reading is rated
PG so stretch yourself and leave the extra language at home. No cover; a hat
is passed to support the reading.

Shakti Women's Writing Pact - Every Saturday
If you are a woman who writes you should join the Shakti Women's Writing
Pact. Shakti was created with the intention of enhancing women's sense of
belonging within the poetry community through the an unmoderated writing
circle.
Shakti meets every Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m.at the Java Hut (1073A Main
Street, Worcester). For more information please contact Sou MacMillan at

Coming up on Sunday, December 17th
[image: Poetic Boxing] This week we'll hold the *Winter Semi-final Slam* and
our *iWPS Slamoff*. The top finisher tonight will represent Worcester at the
Individual World Poetry Championship in February 2007 in Vancouver, BC
Canada. In addition the top four finishers earn a spot in the 2007 Worcester
Slam team finals in May 2007. This is sure to be an exciting night with all
the competitors putting their best effort forward.
Expected to perform are Nick Davis, Eric Urban, Jon Wolf, Trevor
Bryne-Smith, Erin Jackson, Bobby Gibbs, Gary Hoare and Alex Charalambides.
Join us at the Java Hut, 1073A Main Street in Worcester. The sign-up list
goes up around 7:00 p.m. and the open mic will start sometime after that.
The slam follows the open mic. No cover; bring a few bucks for the bucket to
support the reading and to buy a tasty beverage in support of the venue.

Celebrate New Year's Eve with the Asylum
[image: It's Party Time] Close out 2006 with the Poets' Asylum at *Poets'
Prom 2006*. This will be a night of poetic mini-features, open mic reading,
improv goodness and tons of fun. The Penny Players will be our MCs for the
evening and special musical guests *Tether* are expected to perform.
This is a fund raiser for the Poets' Asylum in support of sending a rep to
iWPS in Vanouver, BC. Cover is $5 in advance; $8 at the door. Please see Bob
Gill or Sou MacMillan for advanced tickets.
Attendees are encouraged to get as dressed up as they like. The line-up of
performers should be announced soon. Please join us for the night for just
an hour or two.
