Join the Poets' Asylum for our regular open mic plus a feature by
Dave Keali'i. Keali'i, a Worcester resident for about three
years, who has also been a Poets' Asylum co-host for about the same
time. Originally from Springfield, Massachusetts; he made the move to
Worcester because of poetry and slam. A member of Worcester's 2009 slam
team, he has also had poems published in or forthcoming from USO's
On Freeways: An Anthology of Pacific Islander Writers from the
Continental U.S., Ballard Street Poetry Journal, and Bread
Crumb Scabs. He works as a librarian at an academic and a public
library. This is his last area feature before he attends the University
of Hawai'i at Manoa in the fall.
Come hear Dave's final area feature for many a moon at the Nu Cafe (formerly Jumpin' Juice & Java, 335 Chandler Street, Worcester) to hear him live. The sign-up list goes out at 6:00 p.m. and the reading starts around 6:15. No cover; donations accepted to pay the feature.
There was a packed house this week gathered for the send-off feature by Trevor Byrne-Smith. Trevor shared tribute to Dr. Who, the reasons we should all be afraid, his thoughts on "your momma" jokes and more in his 40 minute set. He shared poems from two new chapbooks, one containing just six poems, a poem each for the six New England states. He closed his set with the Massachusetts poem, titled "Worchester". Trevor heads to Colorado this fall and we hope he'll find his way back to "Worchester" from time to time. All the best to you Trevor.
We made our first attempt at webcasting this week. You can check out a recording of Trevor's feature by visiting http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/8516609.
